The Middleburgh Central School District is committed to ensuring that all students have an equal opportunity to become responsible citizens, productive workers and lifelong learners. The district recognizes we must address individual differences, be open to change, and dedicated to lifelong learning.
Approximately 85 faculty members and 100 non-instructional and professional staff interact and work with students every day. Each grade has approximately 60-75 students. Middleburgh is known for small class sizes, many of which have fewer than 20 students.
Programs ranging from classroom enrichment to special education are offered to meet each child’s needs. Accelerative mathematics, science and Spanish are offered, along with home and careers, technology and the arts. The high school offers a variety of choices for students. There are 8-10 college credit-bearing courses, which give students the ability to enter college with a possible 30 credits. MCS has a federally funded after-school and summer program for students in the elementary and middle school.
Middleburgh Central Schools acted as the lead district to fund a study that developed in the Schoharie Area District Learning Network, which allows students to take additional courses via two-way television. The network has grown from the original three schools to now involve Berne-Knox-Westerlo, Cohoes, Duanesburg, Scotia-Glenville, Schoharie Career and Technical School and Voorheesville.
Current courses taught over the distance learning network include AP Psychology, Sociology, Women Writers, Poetry, Psychology, Theater Arts, Philosophy, Environmental Science and AP Economics.
To reinforce our beliefs and achieve our goals, the Middleburgh Central School District commits itself to the following:
The student is our primary focus;
The community and the district are educational partners
working together to meet the needs of the students;
Our greatest resource is our staff;
Staff skills are developed and enhanced to meet students’
needs;
All staff focus on continuous improvement;
Innovation and the sharing of knowledge and new techniques is
encouraged;
The concept of lifelong learning is affirmed;
We continually assess, respond to and address community needs;
We measure our success by improved student outcomes.
